The international conference above will be held in a hybrid format (at the Auditorium of Science Council of Japan and Online) on Monday, 3 February (Setsubun Day) from 13:00 to 17:30.
Children can attend the conference when accompanied by a parent or guardian and nursery service is available.
This international conference is based on an advisory opinion “Remodeling science and society for the next 20 years: Ten recommendations from Young Academy of Japan” https://www.scj.go.jp/ja/info/kohyo/pdf/kohyo-25-k230926-4en.pdf (The Young Academy of Japan, 2023).
With the catchphrase ‘Challenges to ‘problems that hinder innovation creation’ by a diverse group of younger experts worldwide!’, young experts from Australia, Canada, China, India, South Korea and Singapore, as well as from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will get together with young Japanese experts. This symposium will discuss issues and potential solutions for the ecosystem for sustainable innovation with young researchers, government, industry and the public worldwide, focusing on international similarities and differences.
There are various ways to participate, including simultaneous interpretation between Japanese and English, nursery service, attendance with children and online participation. In addition to the strong expectation of participation by younger experts (middle, high school, undergraduate and graduate students, young researchers such as postdoctoral fellows, etc.), participation by all generations who will support the challenges of younger experts is also welcome.
For the latest and most extensive information (including links to flyers, speaker information, images, etc.), please see the webpage.

【Purpose of the conference】
Challenges to ‘problems that hinder innovation creation’ by a diverse group of younger experts worldwide!
The problems that hinder innovation creation have a complex structure.
The Science Council of Japan’s ‘Young Academy of Japan’ has proposed ten recommendations for the “Structural issues that hinder innovation creation”. As there are still many challenges to be overcome in implementing these ten recommendations, the Young Academy of Japan proposed “Ten pressing issues to address the creation of innovation” (see figure below). The Young Academy of Japan also published an advisory opinion “Remodeling science and society for the next 20 years: Ten recommendations from Young Academy of Japan” in 2023 https://www.scj.go.jp/ja/info/kohyo/pdf/kohyo-25-k230926-4en.pdf. The ten recommendations will lead to establishing an ‘ecosystem for sustainable innovation.’
To promote innovation over the next 20 years from scientific and academic perspectives, it is essential to bridge the gap between academic disciplines, strengthen collaboration with local stakeholders, and enhance international collaboration.
This symposium will bring together young experts from Australia, Canada, China, India, South Korea and Singapore, as well as from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This symposium will discuss issues and potential solutions for the ecosystem for sustainable innovation with young researchers, government, industry and the public worldwide, focusing on international similarities and differences.
We hope you will cooperate with us toward “Challenges to ‘problems that hinder innovation creation’ by a diverse group of younger experts worldwide!”
